2005 Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy

In 2004/2005 the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), the public, and many partners developed a plan to help protect the province’s biodiversity.

Protecting What Sustains Us: Ontario’s Biodiversity Strategy, released in 2005, recognizes that all Ontarians have a role in protecting the province’s biological diversity. The strategy identifies a number of key actions that will help Ontario to:

  • reach its biodiversity conservation goals,
  • protect the genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity of Ontario, and
  • use and develop the biological assets of Ontario sustainably and capture the benefits from such use for Ontarians
